Vigil for peace in Burma outside United Nations headquarters, October 6, 2007.

Peace in Action

Buddhist Peace Fellowship NY is committed to nonviolent responsiveness in the world. We continue to explore how this intention functions.

For example, one concrete way to support peace in Burma is to sponsor ("adopt") a monk there. For more info on this, please visit The Clear View Project, founded by Zen teacher and longtime BPF visionary Hozan Alan Senauke.

Help Bat Nha: Monks and nuns in Vietnam, who practice in the tradition of Thich Nhat Hahn, are in need of our support. Violence has erupted in Bhat Nha Monastery.

Please consider viewing this poignant, short, youtube film (released November 4, 2009) on this situation, entitled, Bhat Nha Prayer.

For more info on what you can do, please visit http://helpbatnha.org/.

Consider joining in Mindful Peacebuilding, which brings together mindfulness practice, peacebuilding skills, and action for peace and social justice, connecting the cultivation of peace in oneself with peace in the world.

A diverse and inclusive nonresidential community, Mindful Peacebuilding is open to all who wish to engage with societal challenges in a mindful context.

For more info, please email mindfulpeacebuilding@gmail.com or join the Facebook group.

Consider joining Zen Peacemakers, whose mission includes being "a force for Socially Engaged Buddhism" and whose practice is "Inspiring, Teaching, Doing" to alleviate suffering by:
• developing and managing holistic social service projects that help individuals, families and communities;
• promoting and supporting Socially Engaged Buddhism throughout the West; and
• inspiring and training a new generation in this way of service as Zen practice.
